Rhonda Marie Garaventa, 35, peacefully passed to be with the Lord on Oct. 2, 2015, after a courageous battle with colon cancer, while surrounded by her family.
Rhonda was born Dec. 10, 1979, at St. Mary’s hospital in Reno, Nevada to Gary and Melody Garaventa and is the youngest of three daughters. She grew up in Eureka, Nevada, attended Eureka Elementary School and graduated from Eureka County High School. Rhonda continued her post-secondary education at the International School of Cosmetology. She worked as a cosmetologist for several years, then for Trench Plate Rental Company and later for SNC (Sierra Nevada Construction) in Reno, and lastly for Barrick Gold, Ruby Hill in Eureka.
Rhonda loved the outdoors – camping, fishing, hunting, riding horses and roping. She also enjoyed photography – taking pictures at brandings, ropings, all things outdoors, and especially her nieces and nephews.
Rhonda is survived by her parents Gary and Melody Garaventa, sisters Roxanne (Ty Thompson) and Rosie (Chad Bliss) and nieces and nephews Trigg and Tripp Thompson, and Hannah, Nicholas, Natalie, and Hadley Bliss, as well as numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins who dearly loved her.
Services for Rhonda are as follows: Rosary at St. Brendan’s Catholic Church on Friday at 5:30p.m. and services at the Eureka County Fairgrounds on Saturday at 11 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, Rhonda requested any donations be made to the Rope for Hope Foundation, Rope for Hope 3261 Marla Drive Winnemucca, Nevada 89445.
Rhonda was beautiful inside and out. She was my contact at Ruby Hill mine, and was always happy and positive. It breaks my heart to have lost a new friend so young. My prayers are with her family and friends, I believe she’s in God’s hands now, and I’ll see her again in Heaven. Words just aren’t enough. I din’t find out about her passing until last week and walked all the cemeteries in Eureka just to say goodbye. I just hope she knows how much she is missed.
