Riders wanted for the 2025 Pony Express Re-Ride

To commemorate the history of the Pony Express, a time between 1860-1861 when horse-mounted riders would race to deliver mail between St. Joseph, Missouri, and Sacramento, California, the National Pony Express Association (NPEA) is seeking riders for the June 2025 East Bound expedition. The 1,966-mile-long trek, which crosses eight states, is scheduled from June 11 to 21. The Nevada portion will take place from June 12-14. With over 750 riders participating, the NPEA is actively seeking riders from Nevada with the ability to race in all terrains, day and night.

Rider requirements include:

• Must be at least 14 years of age to participate, with riders aged 14-18 needing parental/guardian’s consent.
• NPEA membership is required prior to riding. Membership is $40 annually if paid prior to March 1 or $50 if paid after March 1.
• Must have signed the waiver/release of liability prior to participating in the trek.
• Have a horse the rider is completely responsible for and be able to trot and canter for up to two to three miles on an open trail.
• Must be at the designated location two hours prior to ride time and attempt to complete the ride in the allotted time.
• Must wear Pony Express uniform, including blue jeans, long-sleeved red western shirt, chocolate brown vest, yellow scarf, boots and a western cowboy hat.
