The Eureka County School District Board of Trustees convened for a special meeting on Monday, Oct. 13, where they approved out-of-state travel for the Diamond Mountain FFA Range Team and addressed several other key items.
The board approved a request for the Diamond Mountain FFA Range Team to travel to Filer, Idaho, to compete in the Western National competition on Nov. 17 and 18. Industrial education teacher Wyatt Gibbs, along with team members Charlie Sestanovich, Russel Rowley, Annie Tibbitts and others, addressed the board to present their request.
Steve Zimmerman of Eureka County Juvenile Probation presented a proclamation to the board to declare Oct. 27-30 as Red Ribbon Week. Zimmerman spoke on the history of the national drug prevention campaign, and the board approved and signed the proclamation to support local events and activities.
The board also voted to donate a surplus 2011 Bluebird bus to the Mineral County School District, in accordance with state statutes that allow for the donation of surplus property to other school districts.
The trustees reviewed and approved the 2026 renewal options for employee medical, dental, vision, life and accidental death and dismemberment insurance coverage.
Additionally, the board approved interlocal agreements for the 2025-2026 school year with both the White Pine County School District and the Nye County School District. They also approved out-of-state travel for four staff members to attend a Kagan Cooperative Learning professional development conference in Phoenix, Arizona, in November.
The next regular meeting of the board of school trustees is scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 18, at 5:30 p.m.
