A local small business, Balance Beam Healing, originated from Eureka resident Josie Heokenga, holds free meditation circles open to anyone needing an “open, safe, and peaceful spot” to decompress from their everyday stress. Balance Beam offerings is a business dedicated to alternate and holistic services to members in need of meditation/ therapeutic services, but in an attempt to give back to the community, Josie holds free meditation services for those that need it most.
After the first official meditation circle meeting was held on Jan. 4 earlier this year, it has become a weekly staple to provide a space for community members to participate. Most meetings begin with tea and a small chat, that soon turns into open conversations and a place to listen to others. “I listen to what everyone is bringing up… and build a freestyle meditation off of it” Josie explains as to how she facilitates a free and open space to those that attend the events.
As a long-time Eureka resident, “I’ve lived almost my whole life here and it’s my way of giving back” shared Josie, who creates outlets for community members to unwind from the stress of school, work, and home-life situations.
Community members are welcome to join the free meditation circles every Thursday, located at the Eureka Depot’s Lani and Repetto Hall from 6-7 pm. For more information on upcoming events, follow Balance Beam Healing on Facebook or reach out to 775-318-0138 via text or phone call.
