Thelma “Jean” White

Thelma was born September 29, 1934 in Bay Springs, Mississippi, the daughter of the late Lex Smith and Thelma (Gresham) Smith. She was raised and received her early education in the Bay Springs community, until she and family moved to McNary, Arizona. Jean completed her schooling in McNary, having been a graduate of the McNary High School Class of 1952.

She was united in marriage to Charles C. “Charlie” White on November 27, 1951 in White River, Arizona. Following their marriage they resided in the communities of Tempe, Arizona; Las Vegas, Nevada and Elko, Nevada until 1992 when they moved to Eureka, Nevada.

Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie, in 2017, after celebrating over sixty-six years of marriage together.

In June of 2018, she moved to the Jennings McCall Retirement Community in Forest Grove, to be near her daughter and family.

She had worked as a teller in the banking industry in Tempe, Arizona, for several years.

Among her special interests, she enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, reading and gardening.

Jean was also preceded in death by her parents, Lex and Thelma Smith; her two brothers, Sunny Smith and Jack Smith and her son, John Russell White.

Survivors include her daughter, Vikie White, of Vernonia, Oregon and her sister and brother-in-law, Ellen and David Hoerig, of Phoenix, Arizona.

Also surviving are her three grandchildren and their spouses, Blaze and Perry White, of Reno, Nevada; Tiffany and Chris Winningstad, of Vernonia, Oregon and Cale and Cindy Clair, of Elko, Nevada, Eli White; Remington Winningstad and Caiya Clair and Ryder Clair and several nieces and nephews.
