Track team competes at Lovelock

April 4, 2019 by Dave Maxwell Leave a Comment

Only a small team of Eureka Vandals competed in the Pershing County Invitational track meet March 23 at Lovelock. So small in fact, that Tristan Bircham was the only boy.

Yet he did well in his primary events, a second place in the Shot Put and third place in the Discus.

For the girls team, only four or five girls were at the meet for Eureka. However, Isabella Minoletti won the Long Jump at 14-11 and was second in the Triple Jump with a leap of 30-08.

She is now the state 1A girls leader in both events over defending state champion McKenzie Poulsen of Pahranagat Valley.

This week the Vandals are at the Mickie Costanzo Memorial Invitational in West Wendover March 29.

BOYS

100 meters – Tristan Bircham, 25.42

Shot Put – Bircham, 38-09

Discus – Bircham, 120-01½

GIRLS

100 meters – Isabella Minoletti, 15.79. Alia Minoletti, 17.52

Shot Put – A. Minoletti, 25-10

Triple Jump – I. Minoletti, 30-08

Among the members on the Eureka boys team, Garrett Todd is listed second in the high jump (5-10) in the Nevada 1A rankings according to Athletic.net, a national track and field reporting service. He is listed No. 5 in the long jump (17-1½) and No. 9 in the Discus (91-11).

On the Lady Vandals team, four girls are in the top 10 in the 1A Discus. Melissa Schweble leads the event at 28-01, followed by No. 4 Ilyhia Greely (26-9), No. 5 Alia Minoletti (26-4) and No. 6 Skylar Merritt (25-11).

In baseball and softball, Eureka has been on spring break this week. The next games for softball are in Eureka with Tonopah April 5 and a league match up with Mineral County April 6.

The baseball team has a league doubleheader with Mineral County in Eureka April 6.
