The Eureka County High baseball team went into Monday’s rescheduled league game against Wells knowing they had to win the second game of the double-header for them to punch a ticket to the regional tournament. The Vandals made it a close game but ultimately it was not enough.

Eureka swept two from Coleville two days earlier to set up the win or go home match.

The first game of the day against the Leopards was a free game so to speak as the winner gained nothing with a victory so it was a good chance for both teams to warm up for the all decisive second game. Eureka lost the first game 17-7 as they threw their young pitchers and got them some experience.

The second game came down to the wire. Senior Travis Lacovara homered in his last game to help bolster the offensive end for the Vandals. Although Eureka kept it close throughout, Wells eventually won the game and a spot into the playoffs with a 12-9 score.

Eureka will miss the regional tournament for the first time in at least threeyears and will lose valuable contributors in senior standouts Travis Lacovaraand Clancy Talbot.
