Vandal Girls Earn Another Split

Eureka split their matches again last weekend topping Owyhee 3-1, but losing 3-0 to Battle Mountain.

In the Owyhee match, the Braves won the first set 20-25, but Eureka redounded to take the next three although it was a tough match. Scores were 25-23, 25-11, 28-26.

Josie Hoekenga led the Lady Vandals with 13 kills. Isabella Minoletti had 31 digs and seven service aces.

The non-league match with Battle Mountain was the second meeting for the teams this season. The Longhorns had won 2-0 at the Round Mountain tournament Aug. 30.

This time, they again took the victory but Eureka made them work for it. Scores were 19-25, 15-25, 19-25.

Minoletti, a sophomore, had 17 digs in the match and fellow sophomore Kyra Todd had 14.

Now the Lady Vandals (11-13, 7-2) play their final matches on the road, this Friday at league-leading Wells (17-8, 8-0) and then on Saturday, a non-league match at Tonopah (9-4).

The Northern regional playoffs this year matching the West and Central leagues, are slated for Nov. 8-9 in Virginia City. The state tournament follows Nov. 14-16 for all classifications at Faith Lutheran High School in Las Vegas.
