Vandal Softball Mid-Season Recap

Eureka vs. West Wendover – March 1

The Eureka County Lady Vandals came from behind to defeat the West Wendover Varsity Wolverines, 24-17, in a high-scoring softball game. The Lady Vandals trailed by as many as eight runs but rallied in the third inning, scoring 20 runs on nine hits to take the lead and ultimately secure the win.

Key performers for the Lady Vandals included Makenzie Hudson, who doubled and drove in two runs; Emma Auch, Kylee Patterson, Kiki Perkins and Jazmine Martinez, who each collected two hits; Hudson, Martinez and Perkins, who each drove in two runs; Jayden Buchanan, who led the team with three walks, and Natalie Gray, who pitched a scoreless inning in relief with three strikeouts. The Lady Vandals showed a strong offense, collecting 15 hits and 11 walks, and demonstrated solid defense with no errors.

Eureka vs. Tonopah Double Header – April 4

In game one, the Tonopah Varsity Muckers defeated the Vandals 13-8, despite strong performances from Vandal Natalie Gray, who hit two home runs and drove in four runs. The Lady Vandals out-hit the Muckers 12-9 but couldn’t overcome the Muckers’ strong pitching and aggressive base running.

Notable performances for the Lady Vandals included Gray, who hit two home runs and drove in four runs; Emma Auch and Gray, who each collected three hits; Devyn Williams, who collected two hits; Gray, Kylee Patterson and Auch, who each stole multiple bases.

Game two saw the Lady Vandals dominate the Tonopah Varsity Muckers, 21-5. The Lady Vandals’ victory was fueled by a 21-run explosion in the second inning. Auch had a standout game, collecting three hits, including an inside-the-park home run. Makenzie Hudson also had three hits.

Key highlights from the Lady Vandals’ performance included 16 hits and 6 walks; 33 stolen bases, with multiple steals from several players; strong pitching and defense, with no errors committed

Eureka vs. Carlin – April 8

The Carlin Varsity Railroaders defeated the Lady Vandals 16-7. Despite a strong effort from Lady Vandals player Brooklyn Edmo, who collected four hits in four at-bats, the Railroaders took control of the game early, scoring 11 runs in the second inning.

Significant highlights from the game included Brooklyn Edmo’s 4-for-4 performance at the plate; Jazmine Martinez and Edmo each driving in two runs for the Lady Vandals; Emma Auch, Natalie Gray and Kaitlin Cloninger each collecting multiple hits; 10 stolen bases.

Eureka vs. Spring Creek JV – April 10

The Spring Creek Junior Varsity Spartans shut out the Lady Vandals at home, 17-0. The Spartans took control early, scoring runs in each of the first three innings. The Lady Vandals struggled to keep up, managing only three hits in the game.

Key highlights for the Vandals included Emma Auch, Reagan Mello and Charleigh Osmotherly each collecting one hit; Mello stealing two bases; and a solid defense, with no errors committed.

Eureka vs. Carlin – April 15

The Carlin Varsity Railroaders outscored the Lady Vandals 35-22 in a high-scoring game. Both teams showcased a strong offense, with the Railroaders collecting 27 hits and the Lady Vandals tallying 19. Emma Auch had a notable performance for the Lady Vandals, going 4-for-5 at the plate with multiple doubles. Natalie Gray hit an inside-the park home run, scoring two runs for the home team.

The Lady Vandals took an early lead but struggled to maintain it, allowing the Railroaders to score crucial runs throughout the game. Key contributions from the Lady Vandals included Emma Auch’s four hits, including two doubles; Jazmine Martinez’s 3 RBIs; multiple hits from Reagan Mello, Jayden Buchanan, Brooklyn Edmo, Natalie Gray and Charleigh Osmotherly;

21 stolen bases.

The Lady Vandals next play a double header against the Pyramid Lake Lakers at home on Friday, April 18. Game times are 1 and 3 p.m.
