The seniors for the 2015 Eureka County High football team gather at halftime with their parents and loved ones for Senior Appreciation Night last Friday. Eureka defeated Owyhee 86-16 to finish the regular season 8-0. The Vandals will get another game on their home turf when they host Virginia City in the regional playoffs next Friday at 7 p.m.
The Eureka County High football team finished a perfect 8-0 season to earn the 2015 league championship for the northeastern part of Nevada.
Eureka capped off their perfect regular season with a punctuating 86-16 win over league opponent Owhyee. Vandal starters only played a few series against the Braves largely in part of the 46-0 score at the end of the first quarter. The younger kids got the rest of the playing time in a blowout.
The Vandals will have a week off before regional playoffs start. As Eureka is league champion, they will host the regional playoff against Virginia City on Nov. 6 at 7 p.m. on Crutchley Field.
Virginia City finished second in its league in the western part of the state and will be a decent test for the Vandals who haven’t faced a formidable opponent since Oct. 2 when they beat Carlin.
The Vandals are looking to go to their first state championship game since the 2005 season.
