Despite a rocky start to the season, Eureka football found success in league games and finished first in the 1A North League. With three losses in the books for the season, they have more overall losses than their competitors, but the Vandals knew what games to win. With one league loss, they’re coming in just above Mineral County, whose 5-2 record ties them with Pyramid Lake and Carlin.
The Vandals will begin their foray into postseason play and the state quarterfinals in a home turf battle against Pyramid Lake. After losing to the Lakers, 20-12, earlier this season, Eureka is looking for a reprisal during the face-off on Friday, Nov. 8.
Friday’s meeting will no doubt be a battle. Pyramid Lake may appear to have the advantage, but the Vandals have handily conquered both Carlin and Mineral County – both teams Pyramid Lake lost to earlier this season.
The winner of Friday’s game will move on to the semifinals and play the winner of the Pahranagat Valley versus Round Mountain game. Pahranagat has maintained an undefeated record and has previously beaten Round Mountain, 48-0. So if the Vandals win Friday’s game, they will likely have another Pahranagat showdown that will recreate last year’s state finals for the second time this season.
The Vandals welcome and encourage the community to come down and support them in the quarterfinals Friday, Nov. 8 at 1 p.m.
