Eureka County High School’s football team traveled five hours to the northern part of the state to take on McDermitt last weekend. The Vandals left with a convincing 52-0 win and seem poised to secure a second straight Northern 1A- East League title.

Eureka came out hot against the Bulldogs, scoring 24 first quarter points while cycling in younger players the rest of the game. After the convincing defeat, there will be one more remaining test for the Vandals with their last game of the season at home this Saturday against Independence.

Eureka coach Fred Minoletti shouldn’t and most likely wont take their upcoming opponent Independence lightly as it will be their last obstacle to secure the league title. Independence is in the middle of the pack with a 2-2 league record and aren’t pushovers for the 3-1 league leading Eureka Vandals.

On a side note, throughout the season Eureka has had a couple players leading statistical categories in the east. Junior quarterback CW Landry leads the league in total points and total touchdowns while Bryson Wells leads the league with six interceptions.

The Vandals can secure the top spot going into the regional playoffs if they can take care of business at home in their senior appreciation game Saturday.

Kickoff is set for 4 p.m.
