Vandals Wrap up Season Today

Both teams had the same number of hits (5) and the same number of errors (4) in Eureka’s 8-7 baseball loss to the White Pine JVs last Saturday.

The game was a fill-in for one with Tonopah that was cancelled.

The Vandals got on the board in the first inning when Chris Dolan lined a 1-1 pitch to left-center field scoring Wyatt Anderson who had drawn a walk. Gage Hayward had scored earlier on a passed ball at home plate.

Dolan then scored on an error at third base, and Eureka got their fourth run of the inning when Zac Garcia scored on a passed ball.

However, White Pine tied things up with four runs of their own in the first inning. They got four walks and two singles plus a batter hit by pitch.

The Bobcat JVs put four more runs on the board in the third inning on a couple of infield throwing errors that each scored two runs.

Doty was the starting pitcher for White Pine. He went five innings, allowing seven runs on five hits and striking out nine.

Anderson got the start for Eureka. He went three innings, gave up eight runs on four this, six strikeouts and seven walks. He was relieved by Dolan for the final two innings. He surrendered no runs on one hit and one walk.

The Vandals made a rally in the fifth inning with three runs. Bryson Wells led off with a triple to left-center. He then scored on a passed ball at home plate.

Landry got on base and eventually stole third. He later scored on an error by the catcher. Hayward then scored from third base on a balk called on the pitcher, but the boys were just not able to push over the tying run, and got only one runner on base in the last inning.

The softball games with Tonopah that had been scheduled for last Saturday were cancelled.

Both Eureka baseball and softball had games with league leader Wells on Tuesday this week and will finish up the season Friday at Carlin.

The Vandal teams will not make the playoffs this year.
