Volleyball Playoffs Underway

Time for the eight-team 1A Region II playoffs between the east league and the south league this Friday and Saturday at Pahranagat Valley High School in Alamo.

At the same time, the Region I playoffs between the west and central league occur at Virginia City High School.

The Vandal girls lost their last three matches to end the regular season, but have had two weeks to get ready for the regional tournament.

Pairings for the tournament in Alamo have Eureka (11-15) facing Pahranagat Valley (15-15-1), the threetime defending state champion, in the opening match on Friday at 3 p.m. Then Owyhee (16-7) plays Beatty (7-8-2), Wells (19-8) faces Beaver Dam (17-12), and Green Valley Christian (20-12-2) takes on Jackpot (4-6) in the evening’s final match.

Pairings at Virginia City for the Region I tournament have Round Mountain (7-6) and Sierra Lutheran (13-5), Tonopah (12-4) and Whittell (5-10), Smith Valley (21-6) and Sage Ridge (4-5), Virginia City (19-6) and Coleville (10-15).

Semifinals and finals at both tournaments will be held on Saturday. The top two finishers advance to the state tournament Nov. 14-16 for all classifications at Faith Lutheran High School in Las Vegas.
