School Board News

2017 BUDGET

The budget was discussed in length during this workshop. Department heads presented their projected budgets for the 2017 fiscal year. The IT Department is beginning a three-year initiative to achieve a 1:1 ratio of student to iPad/ tablet within the district. Also proposed was the installation of a new intercom clock system for the district as well as new smart boards and wireless printers in the classrooms. New uniforms and equipment will be purchased for athletic teams in need of those items. Certain maintenance projects were proposed such as putting a new layer on the track and repairing the football turf. There will be another budget workshop on April 19.

SUPERINTENDENT CANDIDATES

After reviewing the top five applications, the board has chosen two candidates to interview, Dan Wold and Sharyl Allen. These interviews are public and will take place on April 12. The candidates will be required to make a 10-minute presentation on a topic of their choosing along with the standard Q&A interview. A decision will be made at a meeting the following evening, April 13.

ALL-DAY KINDERGARTEN

The board unanimously voted against all-day kindergarten for the upcoming school year.

SPLITTING 1ST AND 4TH GRADES

The board voted to split both 1st and 4th grades in the upcoming school year. This will include the hiring of two new teachers for 1st and 4th grade respectively for a one-year contract with a possible salary/benefits package of $144,300.

HIGH SCHOOL INDUSTRIAL EDUCATION POSITION

The board approved an additional period to be added to the current Industrial Education position, making it a halftime position. This will add $11,068 to the current salary along with the option of a benefits package.

PARENT INVOLVEMENT POLICY

The board moved to table any discussion of the Parent Involvement Policy until the next regular board meeting which will be held on April 19th.

SCHOOL CALENDARS

The board unanimously adopted the 2016-2017 academic calendar for Crescent Valley Elementary as well as the 2016-2017, 2017-2018, and 2018-2019 calendars for Eureka Elementary School and Eureka County High School.

THE NEXT REGULAR METING WILL BE APRIL 19TH, 2016. A SPECIAL MEETING WILL BE HELD APRIL 12TH AND 13TH.
