Memorial Day ceremony planned for Monday at Eureka Opera House

Eureka County VFW Post 8194 will host its annual Memorial Day Program on Monday, May 26 at 10 a.m. at the Eureka Opera House. Admission is free. 

Memorial Day, Warwick, NY

The Memorial Day ceremony will proceed in the following order:

  • Presentation of the Colors by VFW Post #8194
  • “The Star-Spangled Banner” by ECHS Bands
  • Invocation by Jim Ithurralde, VFW Chaplain
  • “The Liberty Bell March” by ECHS Bands
  • “Is America Today our Forefathers’ Vision?” Speech by Lauryn Marshall, Voice of Democracy Winner
  • “God Bless America” by ECHS Concert Band
  • “Salute to the Armed Forces” by ECHS Bands
  • Benediction by Jim Ithurralde, VFW Chaplain

The Master of Ceremonies is Doug Dickover, Senior Vice Commander and Service Officer

The Memorial Day Band will feature the following individuals:

Flute – Jenna Clugage, Holly Sullivan and Jules Goicoechea

Oboe – Holly Sullivan

Alto Sax – Rylan Pritchett and Lloyd Morrison

Tuba – Ladd Rowley

Trumpet – Aiden Cooley, Sophia Dickover, Jenna Clugage, Marian Dickover, Jules Goicoechea and Makaylah Osmotherly

Clarinet – Russell Rowley, Jenna Clugage, Mia Goicoechea and Amos Fitzwater

French Horn – Avan Montero

Trombone – Doug Dickover

Bari Sax – James Mahoney

Baritone – Lee Fromm

Immediately following the ceremony at the opera house, the veterans and members of the Eureka County Sheriff’s Office will meet at the crossroads of Ruby Hill and Vandal Way to perform a 21-gun rifle salute, accompanied by Taps performed on the bugle. The public is invited to attend this tribute to honor the veterans who lie in the local cemeteries. 

Amanda Rosener, ECHS Student Council Advisor, along with members of the student council, will be placing flags on military grave markers throughout the day.
