The Crescent Valley Town Advisory Board met Wednesday, Feb. 18, to discuss public service updates, upcoming community events, and significant infrastructure plans for the local park.
Chair Diana Kersey, Vice Chair Jeremy Rice, and Secretary Cristina Tucker were present, with board member Laura Shivers attending via telephone. Eureka County Sheriff Miles Umina and EMS Director Nichole Cooley participated via telelink.
EMS and Public Health Updates
EMS Director Nichole Cooley reported that the service completed 25 runs in January, with 10 occurring in Crescent Valley. Clinic visits for the month totaled 355, including 17 in Crescent Valley and 338 in Eureka.
Cooley announced that new state-approved EMS protocols are now in place, increasing the number of authorized medications from 15 to 28. Roll-out training is currently being scheduled for EMTs in both Crescent Valley and Eureka to certify staff on these new procedures. Additionally, the department is pursuing a grant for stroke and heart attack prevention, with funds earmarked for travel and training.
Regarding the service contract with InterMountain Health, Cooley noted that the agreement is currently undergoing legal review for “red-line adjustments.” Once the business license is secured and protocols are finalized, the provider is expected to be stationed in Crescent Valley full-time.
IT and Communications
Vice Chair Jeremy Rice presented a quote for the town’s publication and website management. The IT department provided an estimate of $2,200 per quarter for digital development and approximately $8,000 annually for printed materials. Secretary Cristina Tucker clarified that the printed portion would be delivered to the board for local mailing.
Park Improvements and Capital Outlay
Chairwoman Kersey summarized recent County Commission discussions, noting a $12,000 capital outlay for new signs, backboards, and a retractable net.
A larger renovation plan for the town park is also in development. Lester Porter provided a preliminary estimate of $200,000 for this year’s park improvements including installation of exercise equipment. The proposed five-year plan includes replacing the sprinkler system and leveling the ground.
The board is seeking public input on the park project through July 1. Following the deadline, the board will hold a closed meeting with the facilities department to finalize the layout.
