Eureka County High School junior Brook Watts was the top finisher for the Vandal track and field teams at the Carson Invite on April 24, taking third in the 400-meter dash with a personal best time of 1:01.6. She also set a new personal record in the long jump with a 15-foot, two-inch leap, which was good for seventh place. Watts was also ninth in the triple jump and seventh in the 300-meter hurdles. 

Also posting personal bests were sophomores Claudia Covarrubias and Sophia Dickover in the 800 meters. They finished neck-and-neck, with Covarraubias crossing the line in 2:58.1, and Dickover doing so in 2:58.45. They were 24th and 25th, respectively.

ECHS senior Julia Minoletti was 14th in the shot put and 21st in the discus, setting a personal record in the discus with a throw of just over 66 feet. Sophomore Reagan Mello also had a personal best discus throw of 81 feet, 10 inches to finish 14th, and she was 15th in the shot put. The Lady Vandals were ninth out of 15 teams.

The top finisher for the boys was senior Joseph Minoletti in the high jump. He took third with a leap of 5.75 feet and was also eighth in the 800 meters with a personal best time of 2:13.32. He was 11th in the 400 meters with a personal record time of 53.81 seconds. 

Senior Nathan Tudor took ninth in the 400 with a personal record time of 53.32 seconds. He was also 12th in the 200-meter dash. Sophomore Lian Allred ran a personal best two-mile race, finishing ninth with a time of 11:31.9. He also broke his best mile time to finish in 5:03.43 and take 16th, less than two seconds behind his teammate in 14th, Russell Rowley. The Vandals were 12th out of 17 teams.

The Vandal track and field teams have the Battle Mountain Twilight Meet at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 30. Events begin at 4:30 p.m. at Eleanor Lemaire Junior High School.
