On Tuesday, April 28, at approximately 1:41 p.m., troopers with the Nevada Highway Patrol responded to a report of a crash on Interstate 80 near Eureka County mile marker 1. This location is approximately 21 miles east of Battle Mountain.
A preliminary investigation determined that a green Mazda Tribute was traveling westbound on I-80 in the fast lane. The Mazda failed to maintain its travel lane and entered the dirt center median. The driver steered to the right, causing the Mazda to travel across the fast lane and into the slow lane. The driver then applied hard left steering, and the Mazda traveled back into the dirt median. The Mazda overturned and came to rest on its wheels, facing east, in the dirt median.
The driver, identified as Traci Lynette Edgington, age 60 of Crescent Valley, was unrestrained in the vehicle and unfortunately sustained life-threatening injuries and was pronounced deceased at Battle Mountain General Hospital.
The crash is considered an open investigation by the Nevada Highway Patrol’s Major Incident Reconstruction Team. If you were a witness to this incident or have any information regarding the crash, please contact the NHP Elko Office at 775-753-1111 or e-mail [email protected].
