The Sentinel spoke with Fire Chief Jeremy Rice while he was out picking up trash along SR306 for Crescent Valley Community Cleanup Day, Saturday, May 30.
Rice said, “Since we have our May Cleanup Month for free dump days, we’re doing this one, May 30, for the cleanup in the community, working 306, McDaniels, kind of some of the main thoroughfares, kind of to get our community cleaned up. We got a decent show-up.” Rice had hoped more people would participate, but many people were still taking their trash to the transfer station.
“The people that are actually taking their stuff to the transfer station, they’re actually going to come down and have a hamburger, too. Basically, if they take a load, they’re going to get a wristband and come down and have a burger. Because to me, if they’re cleaning their property up, they’re cleaning the community up.”
Following the cleanup, the crew enjoyed lunch at the firehouse.
The next community cleanup will be October 31, 2026.
