Nevada’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate dropped 0.1 percentage points to 5 percent in July as the state added 4,000 nonfarm jobs, according to the latest economic report from the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation.

Total nonfarm employment statewide reached 1,612,500 positions, representing a 1.1% growth rate over the past year. While payrolls expanded, Nevada’s total labor force contracted by 5,077 participants during the month.

Regional employment breakdown

Job growth varied across Nevada’s major metropolitan statistical areas:

• Las Vegas: Added 2,300 jobs (0.2%) since June, bringing year-over-year gains to 9,900 jobs (0.8%).
• Reno: Gained 900 jobs (0.3%) month-over-month, representing a 300-job (0.1%) increase compared to July 2025.
• Carson City: Shed 200 jobs (-0.6%) from June, down 400 jobs (-1.2%) over the past year.

Sector trends and economic outlook

Nevada’s monthly gain of 4,000 jobs ran counter to broader national trends, which saw a nationwide decline of 23,000 jobs in July. Statewide expansion was primarily driven by professional services and health care, with both sectors posting year-over-year growth exceeding 4%.

“July’s report highlights a steady labor market in Nevada as we enter the second half of the year,” DETR Chief Economist David Schmidt stated, adding that year-over-year job growth remains solid while falling unemployment and labor force participation rates mirrored national trends.
