A man faces multiple felony charges following an alleged baseball bat attack that left a victim hospitalized and led to a multi-agency response in Eureka on Oct. 3.
Deputies with the Eureka County Sheriff’s Office responded on the morning of Oct. 3 to a report of a battery with a deadly weapon. Upon arrival, deputies met with the victim, who reported being struck in the head multiple times with a baseball bat.
According to law enforcement, the victim identified the suspect as Jeffrey Groth. Investigators determined that Groth had unlawfully entered one residence and attempted to force his way into a second home during the incident.
Emergency responders transported the victim to a hospital for medical treatment of sustained injuries.
Deputies located and took Groth into custody with assistance from detectives with the Nevada Division of Investigation and a Nevada Highway Patrol trooper.
Groth was arrested and booked on charges of battery with a deadly weapon resulting in substantial bodily harm under Nevada Revised Statute 200.481, residential burglary under NRS 205.060 and attempted residential burglary under NRS 205.060.
Following the arrest, the Eureka Justice Court set Groth’s bail at $250,000.
“As sheriff, I would like to thank the ECSO staff and all the agencies that assisted with this case,” Eureka County Sheriff Miles Umina said.
All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
