The Eureka County High School girls volleyball team finished the regular season with a 25-15, 25-13, 25-17 win at Tonopah and will serve as the three seed in the Eastern 1A Regional Playoffs.
While the Lady Vandals avoided the play-in game to earn the right to face top-seeded and league-undefeated Lund (9-0), Eureka still has to deal with the second-seeded Owyhee Braves (7-2), against whom the Vandals have yet to beat.
ECHS nearly knocked off the Braves at Owyhee on Oct. 3—a vast improvement on its 3-0 loss at home against them on Sept. 12. Eureka head coach Erin Vial hopes to improve on that improvement and qualify for the state tournament.
“We will be spending some time reviewing film and finding our holes and their weaknesses. I know we need to spend some time on serve receive,” Vial explained.
The Lady Vandals will play Owyhee at Elko High School on Saturday, Oct. 31 at 11:40 a.m.
“I told the team that we can’t face them as the same team we were in the regular season. We have to come at them with some intentional strategies for winning points; attacks, serves, tips, and blocks,” said Vial. “We can absolutely take Owyhee if we are intentional and confident.”
The 1A State Volleyball Tournament will take place Nov. 5-7 at Sierra Vista High School in Las Vegas.
